Legion Lacquer

I recently received the opportunity to swatch and review polishes from a new indie brand called Legion Lacquer.  Creators Angela (IG @pickacolorblog) and Shay (IG @shaycwells) have come up with a gorgeous first collection.  I am a total indie addict and have tried many brands.  I can tell you these are some of the best quality and the attention to detail is amazing.  The first three polishes below are already available in their shop, and the second three will be available tomorrow, November 1.

First up is Sub-Zero Frost. This is a white crelly with gorgeous blue large circle holo glitters, gold hex glitters, and glue and gold micro glitters of different sizes. This only needed two coats to achieve full opacity. I did need to fish a little for the large circles but they came out easily enough. This definitely has a winter feel to it.

Next up is Berry Perplexing, a clear base with iridescent shimmer throughout, and consisting of matte glitter in various shades of berry and blue colors and large white hex glitter. The large purple hexes are more of a fuchsia color instead of the purple like you see here but we know how difficult purple is to photograph. I did use the sponge method to apply the glitter, where you paint the polish onto a makeup wedge and then pat and dab the glitter onto the nail. I think this is the reason I didn't have much of the shimmer showing through. Gorgeous either way!

This next polish is my favorite of the group, Silly Witch!, another glitter topper perfect for Halloween. I could not keep my eyes off my nails while I was wearing this! It's completely made of holographic glitters in green, purple and orange in different shapes and sizes. I even uploaded a video to my Instagram account just to show off how much sparkle is in this one. This was one coat over black polish. I did have to fish for the green circle glitter but as you can see it was well worth the effort.

The next three polishes are available tomorrow, November 1 from Legion Lacquer

This one is called Not a Monarch.  As you can tell even from the bottle, this is packed with holo glitter that just dazzles, including butterfly shaped glitter.  This also includes iridescent shimmer in the base, which I absolutely love, tiny hex glitters in purple and black, and large black circles.  This is one coat over Essence Hello Marshmallow.

This one really surprised me, Clockwork Orange.  I'm not usually a fan of orange based colors because they don't always work with my skin tone.  But I think the base color combined with the blue glitters makes this pretty unique and a standout polish.

Lastly, this is Fascination and I am completely in love!  I had a hard time choosing what color to go under this because I wanted to really show off the gorgeous color of this glitter topper.  Pink and fuchsia holo glitters in a clear base make this a very versatile polish and I know it would be stunning over most anything you use.

Make sure you head over to IG @LegionLacquer to see many more beautiful swatches of these and more polishes from these very talented ladies.  They've certainly got a big fan in me!

Till next time...

Here goes nothing!

Hi guys!  Welcome to my polish-obsessed world, where I get to share my love of polish with anyone who's willing to listen.  If you're already following me on Instagram as @polishformelissa, then you may know a little about me already.  I'm a 30-something year-old mother of three girls, working full time.  Polishing my nails is one of the few ways I get to relax and have "me time."  I'm sure many of you can relate.

My love of polish started in my late teens when my best friend and I would get glue-on nails and talk about boys while we waited for our polish to dry.  As an adult, I moved on to acrylic nails and would usually rip/chew them off by the time a fill in was due.  Sadly, I was always a nail biter so I never really knew what it was like to be proud of my hands and nails.  Until...I discovered Pinterest, which led me to a couple of nail blogs, which ended in my discovering the massive and addicting polish community on Instagram.  I had just removed my acrylics for the last time and learned that what worked for me was keeping my nails constantly painted.  So not only did my love for polish snowball, so did my collection!  I went from having around 65 polishes to having around 650 at my last count.

My main addiction at the moment is indie polishes.  My very favorite brand is KBShimmer, followed by Polish Addict Nail Color, Disturbed Potions, and Jindie Nails.  Anything with circle glitter or holo is going to get my attention!  I'd love to hear what your favorites are.  Maybe there's a brand out there I don't know about yet I can obsess about!

As I mentioned, I was a nail biter really until about a year ago.  If I watch a pretty intense movie, I still catch myself gnawing at my nails and giving my cuticles a beating!  My holy grail for nail treatment is Nail Magic which you can find at Sally Beauty Supply.  This stopped all the peeling and splitting and really gave my nails a chance to grow.  I now combine it with OPI Nail Envy and have seen a huge difference with the strength in my nails.

For my cuticles, I am obsessed with constant moisture. I really believe it's key to getting your nails to grow and staying nice and healthy.  I've used everything from oils, to creams, butters, and oil sticks/pens.  My current favorite was gifted to me through a Halloween nail swap through Instagram (how lucky am I?).  It's the famous Lush Lemony Flutter and it lives up to all the hype around it.  If you don't have access to a Lush store, give Burt's Bees Lemon Butter a try.  It's what I still sometimes use as part of my nighttime routine if I don't have Lemony Flutter close at hand.

I promise not be so long winded and ramble as much in the future!  I wanted to introduce myself and show you guys that even if you think your nails are hopeless and you may be embarrassed by them, give them a little TLC as part of your daily routine and in no time you'll be showing those bad boys off!  Till next time...
